How has summer been treating you? (Or winter, for our Southern Hemisphere friends?) It’s been quite hot in Japan this year, with temperatures breaking over 35 degrees Celsius (95 Fahrenheit) pretty regularly. Even if we weren’t already sheltering at home to do our part to address the pandemic, we’d probably be staying indoors most of the time anyway.
To beat the heat around this time of year, frozen treats are a popular go-to, and for good reason. Today I’ll be talking a bit about kakigori, the wonderful Japanese-style shaved ice dessert you can’t help but crave.

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to scout out one of Tokyo’s numerous gourmet kakigori shops this time, but in lieu of that, we had an at-home solution: make some ourselves! We spotted a battery-powered shaved ice machine and scooped it up. Let the kakigori games begin!
